Okunorén : Backstage AMFW 2012
Masculinity is something many menswear designers struggle with but Okunoren after 10 years of perfecting their formula appears to have hit the proverbial nail on the metaphorical head. Their most recent show at the AMFW held in Lagos, Nigeria was as captivating as it was theatrical. They told a story of a world traveller dressed impeccably with strong aesthetic influences from Europe. The collection itself comprised of exquisite tailoring and made proficient use of beautiful fabrics in regal hues, which were often laced with a variety of textures. This backstage video captures the raw essence of their collection. Imagine if you would what the workshop where the famous E-Type Jaguar was being assembled would look like. The beginning of a beautiful and yet masculine amalgamation of sartorial flair and timeless elegance. In this backstage film by 37th State, the genius behind the creation, what we see is bespoke masculinity: from the choice of models of which Dudley O’ Shaughnessy is included, down to the iconic soundtrack which is used in the film Fight Club. The result is a fashion film that sits comfortably amongst the best. I’m currently awaiting a suit I’ve ordered from the label with an almost childlike enthusiasm. Take my word for it; Okunoren is about to put Nigeria on the map of sartorial excellence.
